Urceus Exit Bio – 2009
Based in Vancouver Canada, on record Urceus Exit is the brainchild of Richard Duggan. On stage however, Duggan is joined by a drummer (Paul Hermann) and additional keyboardist (Kyle Workman) to compliment himself on keyboards and vocals.
Independently, Urceus Exit has released 12 albums, EP’s, and singles since the project’s inception in the early 90’s before signing to Artoffact Records in 2004 (home to Headscan, Interlace, Massiv in Mensch, Alice in Videoland, Steril, Cabaret, and Kobold, among others) and releasing “Contra” [LP] and “Metro” [EP] in 2005. They also released two, digital only remix EP’s and a very popular cover version of Depeche Mode’s “Photographic” in 2006.
Having been quiet on the scene for a few years, September 1st 2009 saw the release of Urceus Exit’s second full length studio album on Artoffact, entitled “Compensation for the Sound or Silence”. Currently only available as a limited edition double CD in a beautiful ecopak with integrated lyrics and liner notes (disc two is an alternative, more electronic version of the main album on disc one), it went into a second pressing less than a week after it’s initial release due to higher than expected pre-orders. “CFTSOS” is also available in a single disc version from the iTunes Music Store, Amazon, and other DD sites around the world.
Urceus Exit has opened for headlining artists such as VNV Nation, Icon of Coil, Covenant, and Front Line Assembly. However, having not toured on their own in years, new and old fans alike are set for a feast of the senses as the project is now, for the first time, performing regularly as a live band. Akin to the likes of Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Underworld, and The Presets, Urceus Exit's live production consists of dance floor anthem style electro beats and music, combined with Richard’s signature ‘begging to be sang along with’ vocals and an eye boggling multimedia show displayed on LCD panels and projectors radiating from the stage.
On record and on stage, Urceus Exit provides nothing short of some of the best intelligent, electro-pop the genre has to offer.
